Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum delivered Mexico’s annual Cry of Independence, El Grito de Independencia, from the National Palace balcony. She celebrated the country’s heroes, Indigenous and Afro-Mexican communities, migrants and national sovereignty. More than 300,000 people gathered in the Zócalo for the celebrations, which included fireworks and musical performances.
