MANILA, Philippines — The Senate resumes Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial on Monday, October 12, with the defense panel set to cross-examine forensic financial analyst Alexander Cabrera.

Cabrera, presented by the prosecution as an expert witness, testified on October 9 that Duterte and her husband, lawyer Manases Carpio, had a combined unexplained wealth of P817.87 million from 2022 to 2025.

His findings were based on a review of the couple’s bank and tax records, their business interests’ financial documents and Duterte’s statements of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALNs).

Cabrera’s report identified P207.7 million in undeclared cash, P143.5 million in undeclared personal and real properties, and P111.85 million in undeclared income attributed to Duterte and Carpio.

The report also cited P142.2 million in undeclared income from Cale 88 Foods Corp. and Metro Chow King Food Corp., as well as P212.63 million in undeclared income from Gencorp Industries Inc.

Cabrera further concluded that Duterte’s SALNs from 2022 to 2025 were untruthful, alleging that substantial assets belonging to the vice president and her spouse were not reported.

He also alleged that Duterte continued participating in various businesses while serving as vice president and that the findings indicated a pattern of constitutional violations.

The defense is expected to challenge Cabrera’s findings as the impeachment trial enters its 38th day.

Watch the continuation of the impeachment trial today at 10 a.m.
