Kaizer Chiefs get quadruple ‘serious’ injury blow

Translate

Kaizer Chiefs have mounting injury issues with four players now included on the long-term treatment table. Here’s the latest from Naturena.

Kaizer Chiefs get quadruple injury blow

Kaizer Chiefs will be without Lebo Maboe, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Langelihle Phili and Brandon Petersen against Stellenbosch on Wednesday. It’s a blow, given that Stellies have won the last three H2Hs. Meanwhile, Luke Baartman is on the mend but remains a doubt for the clash with Stellies.

“Chiefs still have four major injury concerns, with Brandon Petersen returning to individual training to recover a knee injury, Lebohang Maboe – who has played in all eight of Chiefs’ games this season – nursing an ankle injury, while Phili and Siphesihle Ndlovu remain long-term absentees,” the club confirmed on their website.

A bad couple of weeks for Lebo Maboe

Chiefs midfield schemer Lebo Maboe pulled up with an injury in Chiefs’ 0-0 draw with Golden Arrows, a match in which he also missed a penalty. The injury meant he had to pull out of the Bafana squad that beat Guinea and Eritrea in AFCON qualifiers. Now, there’s no certainty as to how long that thigh issue will keep him out of action.

Not all bad news

Kaizer Chiefs are dealing with a long list of injuries, but several players are on the comeback trail. Flavio da Silva is back in training alongside Khanyisa Mayo, who has recovered after a hernia operation. 21-year-old winger Langelihle Phili is also edging towards a return after a serious ankle injury but isn’t expected to be fully fit before the end of the month.
