Deadline’s L.A. Law Summit: Nina Shaw & Patricia Glaser Honored On Day Of Big Ideas, Big Insights; Watch The Video Presentations

Deadline’s inaugural L.A. Law Summit honored two powerhouses of the profession with awards Thursday for Patricia Glaser and Nina Shaw

“If you’re perceived, and underline the word perceived, as good, the sky’s the limit in Los Angeles,” Glaser told a packed house at Deadline’s L.A. Law Summit on Thursday at the conference with Los Angeles’ legal and creative heavy hitters to examine the big ideas and big topics for Hollywood “It is truly a meritocracy, and we should be really proud of that.”

In a similar spirit, Shaw spotlighted the power of character and the work when she told the September 17 conference: “I’m honored to be part of a legal community that strives to make the world better by supporting the arts. While while much of the work that we do is not known outside of these rooms, we know our contributions matter.”

When it comes to Glaser and Shaw, as generations of clients and projects, those contributions matter a lot.

So, among a legion of lawyers from the top firms in town on panels and in the audience, if Deadline’s L.A. That’s exactly what went down this week as litigator Glaser received the Visionary Award and Shaw received the Game Changer Award. Introduced respectively by Glaser Weil’s Gali Grant and Black List founder Franklin Leonard (after a note from WBTV boss Channing Dungey, Glaser and Shaw both addressed the other attorneys in the glass walled conference room at Deadline’s West LA HQ, along with the agents, creators and executives there too.

Beginning with a quote from JFK and remembrance of the recently deceased Glaser Weil parter Roger Howard, the fast paced L.A. Law Summit saw discussions on IP, M&A (can you say ParaBros?), the Creator Economy and, of course, AI. Introduced by Deadline Editor-in-Chief Nellie Andreeva, the sessions were moderated by Deadline’s Executive Editor Dominic Patten, Political Editor Ted Johnson and Senior TV and Labor reporter Katie Campione.

The day kicked off with Power and Nemesis co-creator Courtney Kemp, Blank Rome’s Cheryl S. Chang, Greenberg Glusker’s Chad R. Fitzgerald and Davis Wright Tremaine’s Nicolas Jampol dived into the intricacies of IP in a multi-platform market. Then Stubbs Alderton & Markiles’ Cathleen Green and Davis Wright Tremaine’s Carrie Casselman joined WME Chief Legal Officer Courtney Braun and the always closing Macro CEO Charles D King to talk M&A.

After lunch, Range Media Partners‘ Jack Whigham, Del Shaw’s Ethan Cohan, Greenberg Glusker’s Matt Dysart and Emmy-winning director-producer Anthony Hemingway centered on the true art of the deal and examined what it really means to be a Creator in 21st Century Tinseltown. Deadline’s first L.A. Law Summit ended on a bang with CAA‘s Chief Compliance Officer and Deputy General Counsel Tammy Brandt, Glaser Weil’s Jesse Levin and Blank Rome’s Craig Weiner taking on the facts, fictions and future of AI for the industry and society.
