The Department of Education (DepEd) and Anak TV have partnered to launch a joint media summit for media literacy, digital safety and youth empowerment.

Anak TV President Elvira Yap and other representatives from the organization met with DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara during a courtesy call on October 27 to finalize the plans. The collaboration will have the theme: "Hear My Voice: Are You Listening?"

The project aims to create a dedicated platform for parents, teachers and students regarding child-sensitive and family-friendly media.

The media summit will roll out in the National Capital Region, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, with the target rollout of implementation from February to April 2027.

“The roadshow will feature plenary session with invited professionals as key speakers, and panel discussions among parents, teachers and students focused on navigating today's evolving digital landscape,” Anak TV said in a statement.

During the meeting with Angara, Anak TV officials emphasized the need for collaborative media advocacy, saying that modern media consumption directly impacted values education and child development amid concerns on mental health, bullying, and school shootings.

There have been three fatal school shooting incidents this year, all happening mere weeks apart from June to September.

Angara backed the initiative with Anak TV, saying that it was important for students and teachers to have strong media literacy skills for student development and safe learning environments. — BAP, GMA News
