Sources: Jets first-round WR Cooper week-to-week with ankle injury

Jets rookie wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr., who left New York's 23-10 Week 1 victory over the Tennessee Titans in the first quarter, suffered an ankle sprain and the MRI showed some positive news, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Cooper is considered week-to-week, with the hope that he returns within the next four weeks, the sources told Rapoport.

Cooper, one of three first-round picks by the Jets, set up a touchdown with a catch-and-run for 30 yards -- his next-to-last play, as it turned out. The touchdown came on the opening possession and was scored by fellow 2026 first-rounder Kenyon Sadiq.

The Jets scored on their first possession only once last season.

Cooper's injury leaves the Jets thin at wide receiver in the short term as veteran Tim Patrick is currently on injured reserve.

Jets starting safety Minkah Fitzpatrick also was injured in Sunday's win, leaving the game with a groin injury. Coach Aaron Glenn didn't have updates on either Cooper or Fitzpatrick when he talked with the media Monday.
