Never let it be said Matthew Stafford lacks range.

If you find yourself watching Taylor Swift's recently debuted music video for "Patient Zero" and see someone who happens to bear a striking resemblance to the Los Angeles Rams quarterback, that's because it is said quarterback.

In the video, which also stars actors Colin Farrell, Dakota Johnson and Cara Delevingne, the Super Bowl LVI champion and reigning NFL MVP makes a cameo at a black-tie affair alongside his wife, Kelly Stafford. Stafford's not the only athlete in the scene, as former Los Angeles Kings center and two-time Stanley Cup champion Jarret Stoll can be spotted next to him.

For those struck by the randomness of that duo appearing in a Swift video, you clearly don't know the lore.

So let's get into it.

The Staffords are friends with the 14-time Grammy Award winner and her husband, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, as are Stoll and his wife, Erin Andrews. The couples attended the Madison Square Garden wedding of Swift and Kelce this summer alongside Charissa Thompson and her significant other, Steven Cundari -- the latter of whom is also featured in the black-tie event scene of Swift's video posing next to Farrell.

As for Andrews and Thompson, the duo have been vocal supporters of Swift and the Kansas City Chiefs star's relationship since before they started dating, even making a plea on their "Calm Down" podcast for the singer to give Kelce a chance. Meanwhile, the Staffords' four daughters are known Swift fans, with Kelly sharing in 2024 that she and Matthew surprised the girls with a trip to see "The Eras Tour" in New Orleans. Kelly and her daughters also attended the June premiere of "Toy Story 5" in Los Angeles where Swift made a surprise appearance to perform her song "I Knew It, I Knew You."

Then there's the Emmy's Easter egg of it all. Swift sent her fans into overdrive when she appeared via prerecorded video skit at the 87th Emmy Awards alongside her cat, Olivia Benson, and the show's host, Mariska Hargitay, who plays Swift's cat's namesake on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit." In the sketch, the pop superstar addressed the camera and said, "I think what we're gonna be looking for is hiding in plain sight: Saccharide Aries from the vineyard north or south."

Upon the Stafford reveal, the "Aries" reference has been decoded as a nod to the symbol for the astrological sign for Aries being a ram. As for the rest of the cryptic message? "Saccharide" is a reference to Farrell's role in the show "Sugar," "from the vineyard" is the old French translation of Delevingne and "north or south" is a play on Dakota.

And while you ruminate on all of that, we're going to ponder how we got a Stafford Easter egg before the Tayvis wedding photos. Any day now.
