Giovanni Malagò has filed his candidacy for the fresh December 14 election as FIGC President and will be against former Milan and Monza chief Adriano Galliani.

Malagò of course had already won a landslide election in June, but that was declared null and void on October 6 because he did not have the right paperwork to run for the FIGC role.

Malagò still wants to be FIGC President

He was instead given a new role as the FIGC special commissioner that same day, a way of providing continuity and in theory this was meant to tide him over until another election could be held, this time with the proper registration.

However, since then several parties who had backed his candidacy the first time have changed their minds, and are now supporting Galliani for the Presidency.

They include the Players’ Association and the Coaches’ Association, who have formally backed Galliani.

Today, Malagò formally filed his candidacy, co-signed by 11 Serie A clubs.

November 4 is the deadline for candidates, after which we can go into the new election on December 14.
