Comelec orders cessation of activities for 2026 barangay and SK elections

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday ordered the cessation of all activities related to the 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

This is after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed into law a bill postponing the BSKE, previously scheduled for November 2, 2026.

Based on its latest resolution, Comelec said among the activities ordered stopped are the filing of certificates of candidacy and the subsequent campaign period.

COMELEC also ordered the lifting of prohibitions on certain acts in connection to the conduct of the elections under the previously approved calendar of activities and related laws, rules, and regulations.

However, the poll body said some preparations will continue.

The ongoing printing of additional ballots, accountable forms, Election Day Computerized Voters List (EDCVL), and Posted Computerized Voters List (PCVL) will continue until the allocated quantities are completed.

Pending procurement of BSKE-related forms and supplies will also be completed, including their delivery.

All election forms, supplies, and other paraphernalia already printed or procured for the 2026 BSKE should be secured, properly stored, and preserved for future use, according to the poll body.

Voter registration for the 2028 National and Local Elections will continue, starting in the second week of November 2026. –NB, GMA News
