The North-East Development Commission has called on stakeholders in Taraba State to support the introduction of electric mobility, saying the initiative would create jobs, reduce transportation costs and curb environmental pollution.
The Commission made the call on Monday, at a stakeholders’ sensitisation workshop on the deployment and sustainable operation of electric mobility, also known as e-mobility, in Taraba State.
Declaring the workshop open on behalf of the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the NEDC, Mohammed G. Alkali, the Taraba State Coordinator, Mallam Adamu Lawal, urged participants to contribute meaningfully to discussions on the implementation of the programme.
Lawal called on stakeholders to use the workshop to develop workable strategies for the successful deployment and operation of electric vehicles in the state.
He urged participants to engage in fruitful deliberations, stressing the importance of collective efforts in ensuring that the initiative delivered sustainable benefits to Taraba residents.
Our correspondent reports that the initiative involves the introduction of electric buses, vehicles and tricycles as part of efforts to develop a cleaner transportation system and expand economic opportunities for residents.
According to NEDC, the electric mobility offers an opportunity to improve transportation while promoting economic growth and environmental sustainability.
“The adoption of electric mobility would not only improve transportation but also reduce commuting costs, encourage innovation and create employment opportunities for residents.”

The Commission noted that the programme was designed to improve connectivity among communities, expand economic opportunities and enhance the quality of life of residents.
It added that the initiative aligned with key pillars of its master plan, particularly Connected Regions and Protected Environment, which seek to strengthen regional connectivity and promote environmental sustainability across the North-East.
However, the Commission pointed out that the success of the initiative would depend on effective collaboration among stakeholders and the development of practical strategies to ensure its long-term sustainability.
“The success of this initiative will depend on effective collaboration, collective commitment and our ability to translate the opportunities offered by electric mobility into practical and sustainable outcomes,” the Commission stated.
It expressed optimism that the adoption of electric mobility would contribute to economic expansion, job creation and environmental protection, while supporting sustainable development across the state.
