Jon Stewart to Remain ‘Daily Show’ Host Through 2028

Jon Stewart will continue to lead “The Daily Show” through 2028.

The host has extended his contract with the Comedy Central series for another two years and will continue to man the desk through the next presidential election. Stewart’s contract was set to end at the end of 2026 after signing a one-year renewal in November 2025.

Stewart will remain part of the rotating lineup of hosts that includes Ronny Chieng, Josh Johnson, Jordan Klepper, Michael Kosta and Desi Lydic, with Troy Iwata and Grace Kuhlenschmidt as non-hosting correspondents. He also stays on as an executive producer with showrunner and executive producer Jen Flanz and Stewart’s longtime manager, James “Baby Doll” Dixon.

Stewart last renewed his contract just a few months after Comedy Central parent company Paramount was acquired by Skydance Media. His new extension comes weeks after the David Ellison-led conglomerate closed on a merger between Paramount and Warner Bros.

Stewart made his hosting debut on “The Daily Show” in 1999 and left in 2015. Trevor Noah took his place as anchor of the satirical news program before he stepped down in 2022. After Stewart returned to “The Daily Show” in February 2024, ratings went up. According to metrics provided by Paramount, the show is the most-viewed cable program across social media in 2026.

“Jon Stewart is a generational talent and ‘The Daily Show’ continues to be one of the most influential franchises on television and a cornerstone of Comedy Central. We are excited to continue our partnership with Jon and his award winning news team,” said George Cheeks, co-chair and chief content officer of Skydance TV.
