A murder investigation has been launched after the body of an unknown man was discovered in a burning van.

Emergency services were called to reports of a van on fire in Prestatyn, North Wales, at about 11.30pm on Sunday.

Police said the identity of the person found is not known as they appealed for information.

A cordon remains in place surrounding the scene in Gas Works Lane as officers conduct inquiries.

Detective Superintendent Chris Bell, of North Wales Police, said: “Officers are working at pace to identify the person.

“We understand this incident may cause concern within the local community and I would like to reassure the public that there is a visible policing presence in the area.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the Gas Works Lane area of Prestatyn between 10.45pm and 11.45pm yesterday and saw or heard anything unusual to contact us.”

Anyone with information should contact North Wales Police via the live chat on its website, by calling 101, or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, quoting reference number 0163930.
