GHS contains yellow fever outbreak after confirming four cases

Translate

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) says it has contained a yellow fever outbreak recorded between September and the first half of October, after laboratory tests confirmed four cases in parts of the country.

Director-General of the GHS, Dr Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, said the cases were detected in Sissala West, Wa West, Etu and Nadowli-Kaleo, with samples sent to Dakar, Senegal, for confirmation.

Speaking on TV3 on Sunday, November 1, 2026, he said health authorities responded by rolling out vaccination interventions to prevent further spread of the disease.

“We had an outbreak of yellow fever, but it has been curtailed. Between September and the first half of October, we recorded cases, more than two in this case, that came confirmed from Dakar,” he said.

Dr Akoriyea confirmed that four cases had been officially established, adding that the vaccination exercise formed part of measures taken to bring the outbreak under control.

He also disclosed that the GHS was investigating reports of deaths in some affected communities to establish whether they were caused by yellow fever, as has been speculated.
