Scarlett Johansson Faces Down Evil in First Trailer for The Exorcist: Martyrs: Watch

Writer/director Mike Flanagan has taken a hiatus from adapting the works of Stephen King for The Exorcist: Martyrs, and this first trailer reveals his own singularly creepy take on the iconic horror franchise, starring Scarlett Johansson.

Johansson stars in the latest reboot as a homicide detective who once took down a satanic serial killer, and now faces a whole new series of mysterious deaths. Perhaps those deaths might have a cause which will require an exorcist? The movie follows the poorly-received The Exorcist: Believer, directed by David Gordon Green — a planned sequel to that movie was canceled in favor of Flanagan’s fresh take.

The cast also includes Diane Lane, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jacobi Jupe, Sasha Calle, Hamish Linklater, Carl Lumbly, John Gallagher Jr., Carla Gugino, Benjamin Pajak, John Leguizamo, and Laurence Fishburne. Many members of the cast are Flanagan favorites, including Gugino who was Consequence‘s TV Performer of the Year for her incredible work in The Fall of the House of Usher.

The Exorcist: Martyrs arrives in theaters on March 12th, 2027. For a taste of what came before, the previous Exorcist movies are available on Blu-ray via Amazon.
