Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Avatar: Seven Havens season 1, episodes 1, 2, & 3.For the first time in 12 years in the real world and 200 years in-universe, Avatar: The Last Airbender has a new Avatar thanks to Avatar: Seven Havens. Over the years, The Last Airbender has introduced a handful of named Avatars. Aang obviously led the original series, but he also spoke to past Avatars like Roku and learned about others like Kyoshi and Yangchen. Eventually, The Legend of Korra introduced Aang's successor, the titular Korra.

In the past decade, however, The Last Airbender hasn't done much beyond Korra. The franchise's first movie, Avatar Aang, introduced two previously unheard of ancient Avatars in Sonam and Xian, while The Legend of Korra introduced the first Avatar, Wan, but that's hardly the same as introducing a new Avatar. Instead, The Last Airbender has only ever featured Aang and Korra as its protagonists.

Now, Seven Havens has finally introduced the third main Avatar in the franchise, 12 years after the ending of The Legend of Korra. This new Avatar is a huge moment for the franchise, not only because they're the first new protagonist in so long, but also because they mark the first time The Last Airbender's timeline has moved forward in over a decade. Seven Havens' new Avatar, however, has a massive twist.

Avatar: Seven Havens Has Two New Avatars: Pavi & Nisha

In a first for the franchise, Seven Havens focuses on not one main Avatar but two: twins named Pavi and Nisha. Previously, only one Avatar could ever exist at a time due to the Avatar Cycle of rebirth. As revealed in The Legend of Korra, every Avatar in the franchise has been a reincarnation of Avatar Wan, the first man who merged his soul with Raava, the spirit of light and peace. That single spirit could only be in one body at a time; it's the reason Aang had to be dead for Korra to exist.

Now, Seven Havens is changing that implicit rule of the Avatar Cycle. It's not clear exactly how or why both Pavi and Nisha are able to be Avatars at the same time, but the fact remains that they can both bend all four elements. It is worth noting that Korra reset the Avatar Cycle in her time, which may have changed the rules for how Avatar reincarnation works. That also means Pavi and Nisha will only be able to contact Korra instead of the full range of past lives, like Aang.

As for Pavi and Nisha themselves, Seven Havens' new protagonists have some big personalities. Pavi is a bit of an oddball; she's initially wandering through the wastelands of the world and comes across as a major loner. She makes friends with bugs and rocks and her pet cat monkey, Geet. Once she finds Nisha, Pavi initially doesn't want the responsibility of being the Avatar and espouses some pacifist ideals, not unlike Aang. Notably, Pavi is missing one of her legs, as she said she was born without it.

While they are twins, Nisha is very different from Pavi. Nisha has spent a fair amount of time in Elora and training under the tutelage of Captain Karthik and the White Lotus, the secretive organization dedicated to protecting the Avatar that Iroh once was a member of. As such, Nisha is a more refined bender than Pavi, and she's not afraid to use her abilities in the slightest. Nisha dives headfirst into danger, often directly contradicting the orders of Karthik, and believes her role as the Avatar gives her a responsibility to protect the people of the Havens. She's stubborn and hot-headed, not unlike Korra.

Along with being twins, Nisha and Pavi are also unique for another reason: the state of the world they inhabit. Sometime after her show ended, Korra got involved in a destructive event known as the Cataclysm. It left the world nearly uninhabitable, and the humans of Seven Havens now hate the Avatar and view them as a destructive force instead of as an agent of balance and harmony. Aang had a bit of persecution from the Fire Nation in his show, but Pavi and Nisha are experiencing a whole new level of anti-Avatar sentiment.

Aside from those peculiarities, Pavi and Nisha seem to be mostly standard Avatars. Both can bend all four elements with what seems to be quite a bit of ease, a departure from Aang's difficulties learning firebending and Korra's difficulties with airbending. They haven't yet entered the Avatar State in Seven Havens, however, which may be an indication that they'll need to focus more on the spiritual side of their training than the bending side.

Nisha & Pavi's Backstory In Seven Havens Is Shrouded In Mystery

Aside from their polar opposite personalities, Seven Havens hasn't revealed much concrete information about Nisha and Pavi yet. In fact, the twin Avatars' backstory is shrouded in mystery. Neither Pavi nor Nisha can easily remember even a few years prior, and neither of them even remembered having a twin. They have, however, gotten a few bursts of remembrance, notably playing catch with water when they were younger.

Since neither of the twins remember much from their early childhood, Seven Havens has been stingy with details about Pavi and Nisha from before the show. Seven Havens hasn't revealed how they were separated, how Nisha was discovered, or why they're twin Avatars. They did have a brief recollection of their mother and a song she sang to them, but other than that, their origins are a mystery.

Nisha and Pavi did have another recollection during their encounter with the Anomaly that attacked Elora in episode 2. After touching the Anomaly, what seems to be a flashback showed Pavi and Nisha traversing the desert, encountering another Anomaly, and being forcibly ripped away from one another all while a Haven was being destroyed. Clearly, there's more to Nisha and Pavi's backstory than Seven Havens has revealed so far, and the show will likely make a point of playing up the mystery of their origins in future episodes.

Seven Havens' Timeline Makes Pavi & Nisha's Connection To Korra Confusing

Visual for The Legend of Korra In Concert

The last, and most confusing, thing to know about Pavi and Nisha so far is how they relate to Korra. In Seven Havens episode 3, Captain Karthik mentions that the Cataclysm that destroyed the world occurred 200 years before the show takes place. Pavi and Nisha, however, are the next Avatars after Korra, meaning they were born shortly after she died. Since the twins are only about 10 years old, there's a massive gap in the franchise's timeline.

If Korra died during the Cataclysm or shortly after it, Seven Havens should only take place about ten years later. The mere fact that it instead takes place two centuries later means there's something we don't know about Pavi and Nisha yet. What that hidden information is hasn't been revealed yet, but there are a few theories and possibilities that could explain why Korra's successors didn't show up until hundreds of years after the ending of her show.

The first and most likely explanation is that Nisha and Pavi may have been indisposed for centuries. The flashback they saw while encountering the Anomaly may have either put both the twin Avatars into a coma, like Aang in the ice in the original series, or it could have sent them into the future. The Anomaly does have supernatural powers, after all, and it's the easiest explanation Seven Havens has so far.

Another possibility is that Pavi and Nisha aren't Korra's direct successors. Other Avatars may have lived and died before them, hidden away from the world due to the Avatar's hated status. Alternatively, Korra may have had an unnaturally long life, possibly by living in the Spirit World. These are all just theories so far, and only the show will be able to definitively explain the gap between Korra and Pavi and Nisha. It is clear, however, that Avatar: Seven Havens is hiding quite a bit about Nisha and Pavi.
