Seven people have been killed and 11 others injured in a multiple-vehicle crash involving a trailer, two cars and five motorcycles at Kumo, Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.

The accident occurred at about 5.30pm on Thursday at Tashan Magariya Junction along the Gombe-Billiri road.

According to an incident report by the Federal Road Safety Corps, the crash was caused by brake failure, which allegedly made the driver of a DAF trailer travelling from Gombe towards Yola lose control and collide with two Volkswagen Golf cars and five motorcycles.

The report stated, “The accident involved a DAF trailer, two Volkswagen Golf cars and five motorcycles, making a total of eight vehicles involved in the crash.”

It added that 25 people were involved in the incident, with seven confirmed dead and 11 others injured.

“The deceased comprised four adult males, two male children and one female child,” the report stated.

On the injured victims, the report said, “A total of 11 persons sustained injuries, comprising four adult males, three adult females and four female children. The injuries included compound fractures, lacerations and bruises.”

However, the report did not specify the condition of the remaining seven people involved in the crash.

The FRSC said its operatives responded promptly after receiving a distress call.

FRSC stated, “A distress call was received at 5.32pm, and the rescue team arrived at the scene at 5.34pm.”

It added that the victims were taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Kumo, for medical attention, while 11 people received first aid.

It stated, “The vehicles involved in the accident were handed over to the Motor Traffic Division of the police in Kumo for further necessary action.”

The identities of the deceased and the current conditions of the injured victims were not immediately available at the time of filing this report.
