Indonesia's fishery exports reach US$3 billion in first half of 2026

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia recorded US$3 billion in fishery product exports during the first half of 2026, totaling 566,250 tons, as national quality certification efforts helped expand access to global markets.

Acting Head of the Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministry's Quality Agency Ishartini said the sector's strong export performance was driven by key commodities, including vannamei shrimp, seaweed, tuna, sardines, mackerel, skipjack tuna, squid, octopus, carrageenan, grouper, and various crab species.

Indonesian fishery products are currently exported to 152 countries across Asia, Africa, Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific, Ishartini said at a press briefing in Jakarta on Saturday.

She noted that market expansion had been supported by the implementation of international quality certification standards across upstream and downstream operations.

By the end of June 2026, a total of 1,162 certified companies were actively exporting, comprising 900 fish processing units, 229 live fish export units, and 33 seed production units.

Highlighting the regional economic impact, Ishartini cited South Sulawesi, where technical units have assisted 144 certified processors in exporting seafood to 46 countries.

The activity has generated 8,389 local jobs and involved 8,540 export consignments through August.

To maintain the sector's momentum, the ministry provides free online registration and quality assurance services through its 46 regional technical implementation units nationwide.
