The National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) urged local government units (LGU) to ensure that persons with disabilities (PWD) have safe access to cemeteries during the Undas season.

According to the NCDA, both the Accessibility Law and the Magna Carta for Persons with Disabilities mandated that public places must be kept in proper order and free from obstruction.

“This includes ensuring clear pathways, installing temporary ramps over elevated steps, providing visible signage and adequate lighting, and prohibiting vehicles, merchandise, or any objects from blocking designated access routes,” the NCDA said in a statement.

The group also said that beyond complying with the law, providing reasonable accommodation to PWDs is also an act of respect and equality.

“Every Filipino has the right to honor the memory of their loved ones with dignity. The agency therefore calls on all local government units to conduct inspections and make necessary adjustments before crowds begin flocking to cemeteries,” the NCDA said.
