APC candidate wins reps by-election in Gombe

The All Progressives Congress candidate, Engr Usman Maijama’a Kallamu, has won the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency by-election held on Saturday, September 19, 2026.

Kallamu polled 41,121 votes to defeat four other candidates in the election conducted to fill the vacant seat in the House of Representatives.

The seat became vacant following the death of the former representative of the constituency, Hon Yaya Bauchi Tongo.

Announcing the result on Sunday, the Returning Officer for the election, Professor Umar Gurama, declared Kallamu of the APC the winner after he secured the highest number of votes.

He said, “The total number of votes cast is 47,301, while the number of valid votes is 46,551. The number of rejected votes is 750.”

According to the result announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, the APC scored 41,121 votes, while the Labour Party polled 3,553 votes.

The Allied Peoples Movement scored 872 votes, while the Nigeria Democratic Party secured 707 votes. The African People’s Party scored 298 votes.

The election was conducted across 903 polling units in 31 Registration Areas spread across Gombe, Kwami and Funakaye Local Government Areas.

With the result, Kallamu will represent the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives for the remainder of the current tenure.
