With F1 race approaching, deputy minister says beware ticket scalpers

The government is reviewing legislation to address ticket scalping arising from the bulk purchases of tickets and their resale at significantly higher prices.

The review is being carried out by the domestic trade and cost of living ministry, together with the communications ministry and other agencies.

Deputy domestic trade and cost of living minister Fuziah Salleh said it was important to curb such practices, which not only forced consumers to pay much higher prices, but may also expose them to the risk of fraud when buying tickets from unofficial sellers.

“Many people are now excited to get tickets for the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Sepang, which will take place next month. Please be careful when making purchases,” she said in a Facebook post today.

She said purchasing tickets from unofficial sellers could result in consumers receiving counterfeit, used, or cancelled tickets.

She advised consumers to check official sales channels, original ticket prices, seller identities, and the terms and conditions governing ticket use before making payment.

“Do not readily believe screenshots or fall for pressure tactics such as ‘pay now before someone else takes it’,” she said.
