註︰把某甲介紹給某乙，使他們相識，或把某物、某種風俗習慣傳到另一地方，用introduce。把某物介紹、推薦給某人，或把某人推薦給某人，應用 recommend，例如：

Can you recommend a good dentist to me?

2. 他在這次生病以前一向洗冷水澡。

ˇ He used to take cold showers before his recent illness.

χ He was used to take cold showers before his recent illness.

註︰be used to 作「對……已習慣」解，used 是形容詞，to 後面接名詞或動名詞。如：He was used to cold showers. 或 He was used to taking cold showers.。若表示過去常做，而現在不如此，應該用 used to 接動詞原形。例如：

He used to take a walk before breakfast.（現在早餐前不散步了。）

He is not what he used to be.（他跟以前不一樣了。）

3. 史達林利用特務來剷除政治對手。

ˇ Stalin made use of the secret service to get rid of political rivals.

χ Stalin took advantage of the secret service to get rid of political rivals.

註︰to take advantage of something 作「利用」、「趁」解。例如：

Taking advantage of my spare time, I read widely.

to take advantage of someone 作「用手段欺騙人家」解。「利用某人而自己得利」應該用 to make use of。

4. 我懷疑他騙了你。

ˇ I suspect that he tricked you.

χ I doubt that he tricked you.

註︰suspect 和 doubt 都可以作「懷疑」解，但 suspect 是「有點感覺到」、「覺得可疑」、「有點發覺（危險、陰謀、犯罪行為）」，可能有其事的意味較多。例如：

I suspect that he had something to do with this.（我懷疑他與此事有關。）

I suspect him to be seriously ill.（我懷疑他病得很厲害。）

doubt 是「懷疑」、「不確定」，除了在否定句和疑問句裏可接 that 外，後面常接 if, whether, what 等疑問連接詞。試比較：

? I don’t doubt that he was there.（我相信他真的在場。）

I doubt whether he has lost the package.（我懷疑他真的丟了包裹。）

5. 他拒絕回答我的問題。

ˇ He refused to answer my question.

χ He rejected to answer my question.

註︰refuse to do something 表示「拒絕做某事」；reject 通常表示拒絕接受某物、某人的提議或申請，後面不能接不定詞。

She refused to help us.

They rejected his proposal.
