'No controversy': Cousins to remain Raiders' starting QB, Kubiak says

Translate

Kirk Cousins will remain the Las Vegas Raiders' starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the New York Jets, coach Klint Kubiak announced Monday.

"There is no controversy," Kubiak said.

Kubiak had left open the possibility that he might turn to No. 1 pick Fernando Mendoza instead when he said "we're thinking about everything to fix our problems" following the team's fourth straight loss, a 35-21 defeat to the Los Angeles Rams.

Through seven games, Cousins has thrown for 1,877 yards, a league-leading 16 touchdowns and five interceptions. He has thrown seven TDs in the past four games after nine in the first three.

Kubiak said Monday that Mendoza will play eventually, but the coach indicated there is no timetable for that decision.

"Fernando is going to play football. We have a plan. We don't have a timeline for that. Kirk is playing well, and we're in the hunt," Kubiak said.
