Yilwatda hails candidates as APC wins four of five by-elections

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has congratulated the party’s four candidates who won seats in the legislative by-elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Saturday.

Yilwatda, in a statement posted on his X handle on Sunday, congratulated Kallamu MaiJama’a, Husseini Datti, Okolosi Ator and Yakubu Ali, who emerged victorious in Gombe, Kano, Delta and Bauchi states, respectively.

The five bye-elections were held across four states, comprising one federal constituency and four state constituencies.

APC won four of the five seats, while the Allied Peoples Movement won the Sakwa State Constituency seat in Bauchi State.

Yilwatda said the victories reflected the confidence placed in the party and its candidates by the electorate.

He said, “I warmly congratulate the four APC candidates who emerged victorious in the five legislative bye-elections conducted by INEC on Saturday, 19 September 2026.

“My congratulations go to: 1. Hon. Kallamu Usman MaiJama’a of Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency, Gombe State; 2. Hon. Husseini Datti of Dawakin Kudu State Constituency, Kano State; 3. Hon. Okolosi Ator of Udu State Constituency, Delta State; and 4. Hon. Yakubu Ali of Disina State Constituency, Bauchi State.

“These victories reflect the confidence placed in our candidates and the APC by the electorate. I commend our candidates, party leaders, state chapters, campaign teams and, most importantly, the voters for their commitment to the democratic process.

“I also commend INEC, the security agencies and all stakeholders for their roles in the conduct of the elections.”

In Gombe, Kallamu won the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency bye-election with 41,121 votes, while the Labour Party scored 3,553 votes and the Allied Peoples Movement polled 872 votes.

In Kano, Datti won the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency bye-election with 22,890 votes. The Peoples Redemption Party scored 270 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party polled 108 votes.

Ator won the Udu State Constituency bye-election in Delta with 8,724 votes, while the PDP scored 214 votes.

In Bauchi, Ali won the Disina State Constituency bye-election with 5,846 votes, while the APM scored 5,225 votes and the PRP polled 3,701 votes.

However, the APM won the Sakwa State Constituency bye-election in Zaki Local Government Area of Bauchi State with 8,515 votes. APC scored 3,771 votes, while the PDP and PRP polled 2,076 and 727 votes, respectively.

The APC chairman urged the victorious candidates to remain committed to their constituents.

“To our victorious candidates, this victory is a call to service. I urge you to remain humble and committed to delivering purposeful representation to your constituents.

“On behalf of the APC National Working Committee, I congratulate our candidates and the entire APC family across the four states.

“Together, we remain united and committed to building a stronger APC in the service of Nigerians.”

The five bye-elections were conducted in the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency of Gombe State; Dawakin Kudu State Constituency of Kano State; Disina and Sakwa state constituencies in Bauchi State; and Udu State Constituency of Delta State.
