English FA breaks silence on Manchester City’s financial allegations

Translate

The Football Association (FA) has broken its silence following the independent commission’s findings against Manchester City over alleged breaches of Premier League financial regulations.

In a statement released on Friday, October 2, the FA acknowledged the significance of the ruling, saying the decision has “significant implications for the integrity of the game."

The FA added that it is “carefully considering the decision and its implications” and will take action where appropriate. However, the governing body stressed that it would not comment further while proceedings between Manchester City and the Premier League remain ongoing.

The FA said,

“As proceedings between the Premier League and Manchester City Football Club remain ongoing, we do not intend to comment further at this stage. We will, however, continue to monitor developments closely.

What happened to Manchester City?

An independent commission found Manchester City guilty of breaching Premier League financial rules after a lengthy investigation and hearing.

The Premier League said the commission found that City had used arrangements it described as “sham” commercial contracts and schemes that artificially increased revenues and reduced costs by more than £900 million during the period under investigation. Manchester City has consistently denied wrongdoing and is expected to appeal the commission's findings before the October 2 deadline.

The FA's latest statement does not announce any sanction against Manchester City, but it indicated that the governing body is assessing the implications of the commission's decision while the Premier League process continues.

The Premier League has also confirmed that the question of sanctions will be dealt with separately, meaning the final sporting consequences for City have yet to be determined.
