Translate

Police have arrested a 35-year-old man following the murder of an Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) branch treasurer near a voting station in Polokwane, Limpopo.

The 31-year-old victim died after a man allegedly stabbed him in the neck at a park opposite Flora Park Comprehensive School at about 05:00 on Thursday, 5 November.

EFF Limpopo provincial chairperson Lawrence Mapoulo confirmed that the deceased was the party’s Flora Park branch treasurer.

Argument turns deadly

Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said an argument broke out between two men who were among a group gathered at the park.

Police believe both men belonged to the same political party.

The argument initially subsided, but the suspect allegedly returned and stabbed the victim in the neck before fleeing.

Emergency services declared the man dead at the scene.

Officers recovered a knife believed to have been used in the attack and later tracked down the suspect.

Suspect to appear in court

The suspect is expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 6 November, on a murder charge.

Mashaba said investigators had yet to establish a motive.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the murder.
