Gunmen have killed a youth leader and former chairman of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM) in Gashish District of Plateau State, Paul Danladi.

Mr Danladi was reportedly killed around 6 p.m. on Wednesday near Rantis Village along the Gashish-Barkin Ladi road while riding his motorcycle to Barkin Ladi, according to the BYM.

The association confirmed the killing in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, on Thursday in Jos.

The BYM said Mr Danladi was a respected community leader and condemned his killing, while calling on security agencies to investigate the incident and arrest those responsible.

The association also reported two other attacks in parts of Plateau State on Wednesday in which two people were injured.

According to the group, one person sustained serious injuries in an attack around Gwom-Ajang in Foron and was taken to the Jos University Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Another victim, identified as Mafeng Lamba, was reportedly injured along Sho Road and taken to a hospital for treatment.

The BYM further alleged that Bitrus Dadon was attacked along the same road and had his motorcycle stolen.

The incidents occurred amid continued concerns over attacks on communities and travellers in parts of Plateau, particularly in Barkin Ladi, Riyom and Jos South Local Government Areas.

The association urged the Plateau State Government, police, Nigerian Army, Department of State Services and other security agencies to strengthen surveillance and intelligence gathering around vulnerable communities and roads.

It also called for a proactive security response to prevent further attacks and protect residents.

Efforts to obtain confirmation from security agencies were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.

The circumstances surrounding Mr Danladi’s killing and the identities and motives of the attackers could not be independently established.
