Baznas builds 10 temporary homes for NTT earthquake survivors

Indonesia's National Alms Agency (Baznas) is building 10 temporary housing units for residents in East Manggarai and Ngada districts who were affected by the deadly earthquake that struck East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) in mid-August.

“We are building these temporary homes to provide survivors with safe and decent shelter while they await the reconstruction of their permanent homes,” said Idy Muzayyad, Baznas' head of distribution, utilization, and empowerment.

In a statement received here on Tuesday, he said the assistance comprises nine temporary housing units in East Manggarai, including five in Goloijun Village, three in Satar Kampas Village, and one in Satar Punda Barat Village.

Another unit is being built for earthquake survivors in Ite Jaya Village, Ngada district, he added, noting that the initiative might expand in response to the needs of quake-hit communities.

Muzayyad said that Baznas had moved swiftly to support emergency response efforts from the outset of the disaster, providing food aid, medical services, clean water, and essential facilities for survivors.

To date, the philanthropic agency has distributed 145,100 liters of clean water, operated public kitchens that served 84,250 meals, treated 821 patients, and built four temporary mosques and three temporary schools.

Baznas has also provided educational assistance to 1,000 students in NTT affected by the earthquake, helping them continue their studies despite the economic hardships caused by the disaster.

"We invite all members of society to join hands and work together to help our brothers and sisters in NTT so they can recover and rebuild their lives," Muzayyad said.
