Massive Attack’s Robert Del Naja Arrested as Part of Pro-Palestine Protest

Massive Attack member Robert Del Naja was arrested in Liverpool Saturday, September 26th while protesting outside the UK Labour Party’s convention in support of Palestine.

Police arrested the musician, also known as 3D, as he sat on a bridge holding a sign that said “I oppose genocide I support Palestine Action” while participating in larger movement supporting Palestine and the removal of Palestine Action from the UK’s list of terrorist groups, according to video and information shared by Defend Our Juries, a UK civil rights organization.

In the video, Del Naja tells police officers “I don’t recognize the offense” before an officer explains he’s under arrest for supporting a terrorist organization.

Defend Our Juries said in a social media post, “Last June, Andy Burnham (the UK prime minister) was on a platform with Del Naja in support of the Fossil Fuel Non Proliferation Treaty, praising his ‘clarity and leadership’. Today, he’s having Rob arrested under the Terrorism Act for holding a piece of paper.”

GB News reported Sunday that more than 200 were protesting outside the Labour Party’s convention and more arrests had been made of those showing support for Palestine Action.

Del Naja and Massive Attack have been staunch backers of Palestine, showing their support throughout this year and last. In April, Del Naja was also arrested at a similar protest in support of Palestine Action. Massive Attack were also part of a cohort of artists who called out Ed Sheeran for kicking Macklemore off tour after he made pro-Palestinian statements on stage.
