Kapunan on delisting Trillanes as witness: There's wisdom in caution, evidence strong

The House prosecution panel’s decision not to field former senator Antonio Trillanes IV as a witness in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte is a caution for the best, private prosecutor Lorna Kapunan said.

“That is his [Trillanes'] decision. Congresswoman Luistro just communicated whatever his considerations are,” Kapunan told reporters, referring to House lead prosecutor Gerville Luistro of Batangas, who told the Senate impeachment court that the prosecution “finally decided” not to field Trillanes as witness for the prosecution.

Trillanes later said in a statement that it was he who asked the prosecutors to drop him from the witnesses' list.

“For me, I’m all for fight, fight, fight. [I] take no prisoners. That’s my attitude. But I guess there is wisdom in being cautious because the evidence is strong enough,” Kapunan added.

Kapunan said that the prosecution has been able to present evidence of the Vice President's failure to disclose certain assets in her SALN such as her links to Metro City Chow Foods Corporation as one of the member of the board of directors; the value of her guns; as well as the P6-million property in Matina, Davao City and P3-million property in Samal island acquired by her husband Manases Carpio which were not reflected in her joint SALN filing with her husband.

“We've seen it already and because it's unexplained, it's not about the amounts. It's not about the amount of the property, it's the fact that there are properties that you did not disclose,” Kapunan added. — BM, GMA News
