Kaizer Chiefs held to 1-1 draw by Polokwane City

The result means Kaizer Chiefs dropped two points on the road. This was despite taking the lead and controlling large periods of the first half.

The visitors broke the deadlock in the 29th minute through new signing Lebohang Maboe. The midfielder finished with a clever touch after being picked out by Pule Mmodi, giving Kaizer Chiefs a 1-0 lead.

HOW DID POLOKWANE CITY FIND THE EQUALISER?

Polokwane City came out with greater attacking intent after the break as they looked for a way back into the match.

Giovanni Philander came on to prove an impactful substitute. The hosts were rewarded for their pressure in the 73rd minute in spectacular fashion.

Philander stepped up to take a corner and produced a stunning delivery that curled directly into the net, leaving Brandon Petersen beaten.

The goal sparked the home supporters and gave Polokwane City renewed belief heading into the final stages.

Kaizer Chiefs and Polokwane City both made late changes as the two coaches searched for a winning goal. But neither side could create another clear opportunity.

The points were ultimately shared. Kaizer Chiefs remained in third place on the Betway Premiership log. Polokwane City secured a valuable point to stay seventh.

Polokwane City will be back in action at home against AmaZulu FC on Saturday, 19 September 2026. The match is scheduled for a 17:30 kick off at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
