Translate

TAK – A Thai woman was injured by shrapnel after explosions from fighting in Myanmar struck a house on the Thai side of the border in Mae Sot district, Tak province, prompting Thai troops to fire warning shots.

The woman, identified as Lamyong Nala, 55, was sheltering inside her home in Ban Huai Mahawong, Moo 9, Mahawan subdistrict, when shrapnel struck her body. She was taken to Mae Sot Hospital for treatment.

The explosions caused panic among residents, who hurriedly evacuated the risk area in search of shelter.

The fighting was reported near Min La Pa village in Myawaddy township, Karen state, Myanmar, opposite the Thai border community. Myanmar military forces were reported to have mobilised troops from several infantry battalions to surround and approach the village.

At 06.00 on Thursday, the Rajamanu Task Force under the Naresuan Force fired warning shots in response to the situation, following the rules of engagement (ROE) strictly.

The task force coordinated with Mae Sot district officials, Border Patrol Police Company 346 and village security teams to maintain security and protect residents, while reinforcing measures to safeguard Thai sovereignty.

Authorities said security personnel remained on duty around the clock.
