National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag on Thursday refuted claims by Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte that former President Rodrigo Duterte raised questions about his credibility.

In a press briefing on Thursday, Matibag reminded the younger Duterte that the then President vowed to remove any government official from their post once he gets a whiff of corruption.

“Bago matapos ang term ni Pangulong Duterte, prinomote pa ako na Cabinet Secretary… so saka nasaan ‘yon? ‘Yan ang Marites, 'yan ang walang ebidensya,” he said.

(Before President Duterte’s term ended, I was promoted to Cabinet Secretary… So where is he coming from? That is the Marites, he has no evidence.)

Matibag also said he was able to finish his term.

After the NBI said that it would investigate properties linked to Vice President Sara Duterte and members of her family, Paolo Duterte challenged Matibag’s credibiity.

“As for your credibility, I recall that even former President Rodrigo Duterte raised questions about you during his administration in connection with allegations of corruption. Perhaps this is a good opportunity to demonstrate the standards of evidence and accountability that your office is supposed to uphold,” the lawmaker said in a Facebook post on October 12.
