Indonesia says gas export cuts to Singapore conform to contracts

Translate

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s 8 percent reduction in natural gas exports to Singapore complies fully with minimum supply thresholds and does not breach existing contracts, Coordinating Minister for Downstreaming and Energy Transition Bahlil Lahadalia said Monday.

Speaking at a press conference in Jakarta, Lahadalia emphasized that the government remains committed to international agreements following the decision to reduce pipeline gas deliveries by 31 million British thermal units per day (MMBTUD).

“Under the direction of President Prabowo, our country respects contracts and regulations. So no one needs to lecture Indonesia about maintaining and honoring commitments,” Lahadalia told reporters.

Indonesia currently exports a total of 409.55 MMBTUD of piped gas to Singapore from fields in the Natuna Sea and Sumatra.

The 31 MMBTUD reduction represents roughly 8 percent of total exports, well within the allowable contractual flexibility, he said.

Lahadalia explained that long-term supply contracts establish a minimum delivery floor of 91 to 92 percent of total volume.

Because the current adjustment stays within that allowance, no contract violation has occurred, he emphasized.

The minister attributed the supply reduction to scheduled maintenance activities alongside rising domestic gas demand, reiterating that the government must prioritize national energy needs.

Beyond pipeline gas, Indonesia continues to fulfill separate commitments supplying approximately 146 cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Singapore.

Lahadalia reiterated that officials reviewed all legal terms before approving the operational adjustment and verified that all supply floors remain fully intact.

“What has occurred has not crossed the minimum threshold. There is no violation,” Lahadalia said.
