Palace says Marcos listens to the public; Duterte leads in trust ratings

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. listens to public concerns and considers the needs of different sectors when planning and implementing government programs, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said Thursday
Her statement came after Pulse Asia Research’s September 2026 Ulat ng Bayan survey found that 49 percent of respondents disapproved of Marcos’ performance, while 48 percent said they distrusted him.

During a briefing on Thursday, Castro said Marcos listens to legitimate public calls on how the government can improve people’s lives.
“For example, there is a need to lower electricity rates, which he mentioned in his Sona (State of the Nation Address). This did not come from a survey. There is also a call to increase public transportation fares,” Castro said.
“The president balances the projects and programs being implemented. It cannot be that only one side wins; everyone must benefit. These are the things the President listens to. So, we can prove that the president listens,” she added.
Asked about Duterte’s favorable survey results, Castro said they have not discussed the latest survey results with Marcos, but these are noted.

Castro also said the Marcos administration remains focused on addressing the economic implications of the peso falling below 63 per dollar for the first time.
“The crisis in the Middle East continues. We pray that it will come to an end soon. It is indeed affecting the country’s economy,” she added. /mcm
