The newly appointed Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 10 Headquarters, Sokoto, Ahmed Musa.

The Sokoto State Government’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, Col. Ahmed Usman (retd.), has urged the new Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 10, Ahmed Musa, to intensify the fight against banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes in the North-West.

Usman gave the charge while congratulating Musa on his assumption of duty as the 25th AIG of Zone 10 Police Headquarters, Sokoto, which oversees policing in Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states.

In a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday, the security adviser described the appointment as an opportunity to strengthen security operations and deepen collaboration among security agencies to address the persistent threats confronting communities across the three states.

He expressed confidence in Musa’s ability to deliver on his new assignment, noting that his previous service as Commissioner of Police in Sokoto State had equipped him with first-hand knowledge of the region’s security challenges.

According to him, the experience would enable the new AIG to develop effective strategies to tackle criminal activities and improve security across the zone.

Usman urged Musa to sustain the fight against criminal elements through intelligence-led policing, effective deployment of personnel and improved operational coordination among security agencies.

He also called for stronger collaboration among the police, military, community leaders and local security outfits to enhance the protection of lives and property.

“The complex security situation in the North-West requires sustained commitment, strategic leadership and collective action by security agencies, government authorities and citizens,” he said.

The security adviser emphasised the importance of intelligence gathering and information sharing, noting that timely and credible information from residents remained critical to preventing attacks, rescuing abducted persons and bringing perpetrators to justice.

He further urged the new AIG to prioritise the protection of vulnerable communities, strengthen police-community relations and ensure that officers under his command discharged their duties with professionalism, discipline and respect for human rights.

Usman also appealed to residents of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states to support security agencies by providing useful information about the activities of criminal elements.

He cautioned against spreading unverified reports that could cause panic among residents or undermine ongoing security operations.

The security adviser assured Musa of the Sokoto State Government’s continued commitment to supporting security agencies in their efforts to restore lasting peace and stability across affected communities.

He wished the new AIG a successful tenure, expressing optimism that his leadership would strengthen security operations and improve public confidence in policing across Zone 10.
