Friend 'puts idea' into Lamarre-Condon's head about retrieving belongings

By Millie Roberts

After this point at the national park, Lamarre-Condon says he started taking his step dad's medication for depression and anxiety after "really realising the severity and gravity of what I was trying to do to myself".

He's now talking about a "bitter breakup" a friend had with her ex.

She says she was going to go back into his house to get back her belongings while he was not there and "successfully got her belongings back" including a Cartier ring.

He's asked if she "put the idea in" his head.

Lamarre-Condon agrees, saying he "remembered about my Cartier ring, the last time i saw it was the 16th November ... I put it in [Baird's] bedside drawer.

"That ring is $25,000."

Lamarre-Condon fires gun twice in national park

By Millie Roberts

"I fired it a single time at a tree," he says, when asked if he fired the gun.

He says "stuff went in my eyes" when he pulled the trigger.

He fired a second shot through a bag to prevent more material going into his eyes, not to subdue noise.

"Little brown paper bag that is that is never going to change the gun shot," he says.

"It would be pretty silly to think [the bag] would change the sound of the gun shot."

His friend at the time was listening to police radio.

Accused took friend to a national park with gun

By Millie Roberts

On February 1, 2024 he went to the Royal National Park with a friend, and packed his gun.

He says he signed a firearm out from Miranda Police Station after work.

The accused says he had many conversations with this friend of his thoughts of suicide.

"We had multiple conversations but I didn't tell him why we were going there," he says.

He says he didn't want people to hear the gunshot and find his body, so he kept his police radio on to keep track of people in the area.

Lamarre-Condon says his mental health was 'on-and-off'

By Millie Roberts

"Was there ever an agreement ... that your relationship was an exclusive relationship," his barrister asks.

"... We were doing things couples would be doing ... and it was an intimate relationship but no we were not exclusive, I was still seeing people," he replied.

Lamarre-Condon is being asked about his mental health in February 2024, which he describes as "not good".

"My mental state in the entire period I was seeing Jesse ... was on-and-off ... but yes it did decline in February," he says.

He says this was due to stress and bullying or harassment at work and was "actively taking steps to plan my suicide".

He's again wearing a grey suit and black tie, and was swivelling in his chair as he waited for the line of enquiry to kick off.

His barrister, John Stratton SC, is asking about the last time he saw Baird before the shooting.

He says the date was on November 18, 2023.

He's now been shown a still from a video he took of Baird on August 23, 2023 at The Carrington in Surry Hills.

The basics of the case

By Jamie McKinnell

The trial is now in its seventh week and jurors have heard evidence or statements from around 90 witnesses.

Lamarre-Condon is giving his account of what happened on the day former TV presenter Jesse Baird and Qantas flight attendant Luke Davies died.

The Crown's case is that Lamarre-Condon developed an obsessive and jealous infatuation with Baird after a casual romance during parts of 2023.

He's pleaded not guilty and is arguing self-defence, with his lawyers previously telling the jury that the deaths were the result of two separate struggles involving the pistol.

The 31-year-old is accused of shooting the pair with his police pistol in Baird's Paddington share house in February 2024.

Where did we leave off yesterday?

By Millie Roberts

Lamarre-Condon gave evidence about how he met Baird in October 2022 at a gay club in Sydney's inner-city.

Their relationship started of platonic and sexual, he says, but became romantic by the end of that year.

In April 2023, the accused says he went through Baird's phone and saw messages from another man.

They broke up that month, but intermittently texted and socialised, before getting back together in June 2023.

In August 2023, Lamarre-Condon testified he entered Baird's house in an attempt to go through his phone and was chased out by Baird.

He spoke about his time working with a NSW Police youth command in 2021, including allegations of homophobia and bullying.

Come November 2023, he testified he was hanging out with Baird "four to five" times a week and Baird cut him a key to his Paddington share house.

That same month, their relationship imploded over an Instagram Story Lamarre-Condon posted to bait a man he believed was also dating Baird.

He says he poured water into Baird's petrol tank in a "tit-for-tat" for scratches on his Tesla, and claims he "tried to avoid" the suburb Baird lived in.

We also heard the context for a "help me hide a body" comment Lamarre-Condon made to a friend, which he says was made while helping her recite lines while acting.

The accused discussed his mental health and suicide ideation in that period.
