The Filipinos’ bayanihan spirit propelled Sasha Lacuna at the online poll for the “Miss Social Media” award at the ongoing The Miss Globe pageant in Thailand, pushing the Binibining Pilipinas titleholder at the top at the end of the first round of voting.

The Tarlaqueña university student received the highest number of votes during the first round of voting from Oct 30 to Nov. 2, and will be moving on to Round 2 with the rest of the Top 10 delegates who amassed the most votes.

This was announced on The Miss Globe pageant’s social media pages on Monday, Nov. 2. Lacuna was joined by the delegates from Argentina, Ecuador, Indonesia, Nigeria, Vietnam, India, Malaysia, Tatarstan, and Russia. Details of the second round of voting has not been announced yet.

The Bb. Pilipinas queen also expectedly advanced to the Top 12 of the “Head-to-Head” competition, where the delegates displayed their eloquence, and shared their thoughts about a myriad of topics.

Lacuna is competing for the Philippines’ third victory in the current iteration of The Miss Globe pageant, following the wins of Ann Colis in 2015 and Maureen Montagne in 2021. Bb. Pilipinas Maricar Balagtas became the first Asian winner during an earlier iteration of the international competition in 2001.

The Philippines is also enjoying a placement streak since Colis’ 2015 victory, with several Bb. Pilipinas queens also landing runner-up spots, including Nichole Manalo in 2016, Nelda Ibe in 2017, Leren Mae Bautista in 2019, Anna Lakrini in 2023, and Jasmin Bungay in 2024.

The Miss Globe pageant will hold its 2026 “Grand Final” in Phuket on Nov. 7. Thai winner Cheraim Chayathanus Saradatta will crown her successor at the end of the competition. /edv
