PETALING JAYA: Police arrested five men, aged between 30 and 40, on suspicion of being involved in an attack on a man using dangerous weapons at a housing area here yesterday.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat said police seized a parang and a saw believed to have been used in the incident.

"At 1:03am yesterday, the district police headquarters received a police report from a local man stating that he had been attacked by several people. Police also tracked down a video related to the incident that went viral on social media," he said in a statement today.

Shamsudin added that three of those arrested had criminal records.

"The case is investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for possessing weapons or dangerous objects during a riot. The public is advised not to spread inaccurate information or make any speculations regarding this incident," he said.

Shamsudin urged witnesses to come forward to the nearest police station or contact the district headquarters operations room directly at 03-79662222.
