NBI summons 'Machong Chismisan' hosts over derogatory remark

MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Friday said it has already issued subpoenas to the hosts of the now-terminated podcast, “Machong Chismisan,” which drew widespread criticism after their derogatory remarks about actress Kris Aquino’s eldest son, Josh.

(Two of them, especially the main person who spoke, have already received the subpoena.)

Asked what possible violations the hosts may have committed, Matibag said these could include violations of Republic Act No. 9442, or the Magna Carta for Persons with Disability, as well as cyber libel, even before the investigation began.

Matibag then noted that even though the hosts have already issued a public apology, it does not simply erase criminal liability.

He then said the podcast’s production house may also be included in the probe.

To note, 1PWD party-list Rep. JD Castro earlier said his group will file a complaint before the NBI on Monday, Oct. 19, against the podcast hosts over their insensitive remarks. /gsg
