One missing after attempting to cross flooded river in Kajiado
Kenya Red Cross personel overseees search operations at Baraka Olkaria Village in Kajiado South

NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 31 – Search and rescue operations are underway in Kajiado South after one person was reportedly swept away by floodwaters while attempting to cross an overflowing river.

The Kenya Red Cross says the incident occurred on the night of October 30 at Baraka, Olkaria Village, as heavy rains continued to raise concerns over flooding in parts of the country.

In an update shared on X, the humanitarian organisation said search teams were still working to locate the missing person.

The Kenya Red Cross urged residents to exercise caution and avoid crossing flooded rivers and roads, warning of the dangers posed by swollen waterways.

“In an emergency, call toll-free 1199,” the organisation said.
