MANILA, Philippines — Newly appointed Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Lino Cayetano on Tuesday said his political differences with his siblings will not hinder their family from serving Filipinos.

He also called on supporters of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to unite across political lines and focus on programs that will benefit Filipinos, saying shared values matter more than party affiliations.

Cayetano made the appeal when asked about his political differences with two of his elder siblings, Senators Alan Peter and Pia Cayetano, who are identified to be politically allied with Vice President Sara Duterte.

“For me, it doesn’t change anything. I think the most important thing—and what binds even families together—is values,” Cayetano told reporters in Malacañang.

Cayetano, who took his oath of office before Marcos earlier on Tuesday, urged the president’s supporters to work together in the remaining two years of the administration.

“I call on all of the president’s supporters. In the next two years, let’s come together and make sure there are support programs that will benefit the Filipino people. There is so much that we need to do,” he said.

When asked whether he had spoken to his siblings about his appointment and what they thought of it, Cayetano declined to comment.

He also said he will consult Marcos on whether he would speak publicly on behalf of the chief executive and Malacañang, noting that he was “inclined to work behind the scenes.”

Cayetano previously served as general manager of the People’s Television Network (PTV-4), as well as mayor of Taguig City, barangay captain and representative of the city’s second district in the House of Representatives.

He ran for congressman of Taguig-Pateros’ first district in 2025 but lost to Ricardo Cruz, who was backed by his own brother Alan Peter and sister-in-law Lani.

The sibling’s relationship become sour since then.

In October 2025, Cayetano challenged his senator brother Alan Peter to lead by example by resigning from his post, after the lawmaker’s call for a mass resignation of officials amid the flood control scandal.
