Katie Piper reveals cruel comments she received from trolls after her NTAs appearance

In an Instagram video posted on Thursday, the model revealed that whilst she had initially left the NTAs on Tuesday feeling positive, she woke up to a barrage of abuse online.

“I felt really good. I thought I looked really nice. I felt really pretty. I think I was even singing to myself, driving along,” she said.

However, she soon started receiving a wave of notifications after a red carpet interview with her fellow ITV panellists was posted on Women & Home.

“The comments are going mad. I thought, ‘Oh, why?’ and it’s just endless,” she said, sharing screenshots of some of the cruel remarks.

“‘Oh, look at her. What happened to her face? Oh, she’s overdone it on the filler.

“‘Oh my God, why are we talking about the hair? The hair’s not the problem. The face, blah blah.’”

She said that she is just a “normal person” trying to live her life, and while she normally doesn’t respond to hate comments, this time it was different.

“ This wasn't the right thing to do. I started replying to them all. And they're all women,” she said.

Piper said that whilst she didn’t insult them back, she began questioning them on why they felt the need to comment on another woman's appearance.

“You're not just damaging me, you're damaging every single woman that sees these comments. You're saying to them, ‘It's not okay to not be beautiful. It's not okay to look different.'

“ Like you're saying to people that it's an issue if you're not symmetrical, if you don't meet beauty standards, and you are playing a part in creating a nightmare for all other women,” she said, reminding people to be aware of their digital footprint.

“Would you stand by this if all those comments got sent to your colleagues, got sent to your family? Just be careful what world you're creating for all of us to live in.”

The former model, who has undergone hundreds of operations over the past decade-and-a-half, suffered an acid attack arranged by her ex-boyfriend in March 2008.

After surviving the attack at the age of 24, the former model gave up her right to anonymity and made a Channel 4 documentary in 2009 called Katie: My Beautiful Face.

She has since gone on to found the Katie Piper Foundation, which supports survivors of life-changing burns and scars, and has received an honorary doctorate from the Royal College of Surgeons to mark her ground-breaking work with the foundation.

In 2021, Piper was made an OBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours list for her services to charity and victims of burns and other disfigurement injuries.
