Gada begins Sokoto East campaign, woos voters for PDP

Former senator and Peoples Democratic Party senatorial candidate for Sokoto East, Abubakar Gada, has urged voters in the district to support the party’s bid to reclaim power. He expressed confidence in its chances in the 2027 general elections.

Gada made the appeal on Saturday at the flag-off of his senatorial campaign in Gwadabawa town, where he called on party supporters to rekindle their political commitment and mobilise for the PDP’s return.

He described Sokoto East as a traditional stronghold of the PDP, saying the campaign was intended to revive the confidence and determination of supporters to reclaim their political position.

“Sokoto East is traditionally a PDP zone. Past performance data and records have shown that. So, it is just to awaken them and bring back their self-consciousness, determination and readiness to take over,” he said.

The former lawmaker, who represented the district in the Senate, expressed confidence in his political record, insisting that his performance in the National Assembly remained a strong selling point for his candidacy.

“I do not want to sound immodest, but I am always proud of my performance the last time I was in the Senate. People have recently made efforts, and I think they have done a lot, but compared to what we achieved at the time, it was absolutely incredible,” he said.

On the security and poverty challenges confronting the district, Gada called for greater Federal Government attention to areas requiring urgent and sustained intervention.

He said effective deployment of public policy instruments and deliberate government prioritisation would be necessary to address the challenges facing the district and similar communities across the country.

Gada also urged voters to recognise the power of their ballots, warning that their decisions at the polls would have lasting consequences for their future.

“They are the power. Their votes are their guns and arsenals. Their voice is their weapon of battle. They should respect and understand that this is their God-given right,” he said.

He added, “If they mess it up, they are messing up their future. If they hold it dearly and use it for the purpose for which it is meant, they will elect credible leadership that is sensitive to people’s yearnings and aspirations and their predicaments.”

Also speaking at the event, the PDP leader in Sokoto State and the party’s National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, urged voters in the district to work towards the party’s return to power.

Bature described Gada as a dependable candidate, saying his previous representation in the Senate was characterised by the delivery of campaign promises.

He said the PDP was working tirelessly to reclaim the Sokoto State Government House and secure victory in all three senatorial districts in the state.

Bature called on party members and supporters to remain committed to the party’s cause and mobilise residents across the district ahead of the 2027 elections.
