Celebrity Traitors ends on cliffhanger after first murder and one new traitor

Celebrity Traitors is back and the new series has already delivered plenty of chaos, with 21 famous faces entering the Scottish Highlands for a game of secret missions, deception and betrayal.

The BBC reality hit returned on Thursday night (October 1), with Claudia Winkleman back in charge as a new group of actors, comedians, musicians, broadcasters and TV presenters entered the castle.

Viewers did not have to wait long for the first major twist, with Winkleman choosing just two Traitors at the beginning of the game rather than the usual three.

Who are the Traitors?

This year's original Traitors were Maya Jama and Richard E Grant, with James Acaster later recruited as the third member of their coven.

Love Island host Jama and Oscar-nominated actor Grant were chosen by Winkleman at the start of the series, with both appearing delighted to take on the secret roles.

Grant even explicitly revealed to Joe Lycett that he was a Traitor during the first episode, leaving the Faithfuls none the wiser about whether he was joking or telling the truth.

In episode two, the Traitors were given a choice between James Acaster and Amol Rajan, with one celebrity set to be recruited and the other facing murder.

They chose to recruit Acaster, who was welcomed into the coven by Grant and Jama.

Grant told him: “James, we’d like to welcome you as a new Traitor to the coven.”

Acaster replied: “This is like every emotion I’ve ever felt.”

Amol Rajan was subsequently murdered by the Traitors.

While the Traitors attempt to remain undetected as they "murder" contestants from the game each night, the Faithfuls must work out who is lying before they are picked off.

There is also a cash prize of up to £100,000 for the winner's chosen charity.
