28-year-old man drowns in Richards Bay

A 28-year-old man has died after drowning in Richards Bay on Sunday (4 October).
MAN DROWNS IN RICHARDS BAY
Manie le Roux, NSRI Richards Bay deputy station commander, said that a 28-year-old man drowned in Richards Bay at 06:45 on Sunday 4 October. NSRI Richards Bay duty crew were activated following reports of a drowning in progress at the Bay Hall area, in front of Zululand Multi Sports Club.
“NSRI rescue swimmers, our NSRI rescue vehicle, the SA Police Service, Police Search and Rescue – WPDS (Water Policing and Diving Service), uMhlathuze Fire and Rescue Service and Medcare 24 EMS ambulance service responded,” read a statement.
“On arrival on the scene NSRI and emergency services commenced CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) efforts on a 28 year old local man who had been recovered from the water, we believe by bystander Good Samaritans, following a drowning accident,” read a statement.
MAN DECLARED DECEASED BY PARAMEDICS
uMhlathuze lifeguards, who reported for duty on the day, assisted on the scene. Despite extensive CPR efforts, after all efforts to resuscitate the man were exhausted. The man was sadly declared deceased by paramedics.
The body of the man has been taken into the care of Police and Government Health Forensic Pathology Services. Police have opened an Inquest docket.
This comes as a teen boy was also reported missing after he was caught in a rip current at Cape Vidal beach on Saturday (3 October) afternoon.
