One Piece is about to hit the brakes again, as episode #1180 marks the anime's final broadcast of 2026 tomorrow, and Toei Animation still hasn't given fans a confirmed date for when the weekly series will actually return. And the timing couldn't be worse. Episode #1180, titled "Elbaph in Despair," is set to leave the anime right in the middle of one of the most interesting parts of the Final Saga.
However, based on where episode #1180 is about to leave the story, it's pretty clear that the anime's comeback isn't going to be a small one. Instead, One Piece will continue the Elbaph Arc on the big screen with its first-ever fully canon movie, One Piece: God Valley. That makes tomorrow's final episode a pretty major one, as it could finally bring the first trailer for the God Valley movie.
This will be the franchise's first real step toward continuing its main story on the big screen, following the same blockbuster anime movie trend that has worked so well for Demon Slayer and Chainsaw Man. After years of hearing about the God Valley Incident, Roger, Garp, and Rocks D. Xebec, the wait for an actual look at the movie has been getting ridiculous. Tomorrow could finally change that, with the first trailer potentially revealing what Toei has been working on and, most importantly, potentially confirming the movie's release date.
One Piece Hiatus Sets The Stage For A Massive Summer 2027 Theatrical Event
Officially announced during the One Piece Day 2026 event alongside the mysterious 2029 project One Piece Film: BAAD, the upcoming God Valley movie is finally set to tackle one of the biggest secrets in the entire franchise. For decades in the story's timeline, the World Government has desperately tried to erase the God Valley Incident from history.
This is the legendary clash that made Monkey D. Garp the “Hero of the Marines,” put Gol D. Roger on the path to becoming the Pirate King, and brought an end to the Rocks Pirates. And this wasn't just any pirate crew. Rocks D. Xebec had Whitebeard, Big Mom, and Kaido all under the same flag, making it one of the strongest crews in One Piece history. The transition into this massive theatrical event is already being set up in the anime.
Episode #1180, titled “Elbaph in Despair – Diabolical Covenant, 'Domi Reversi,'” is expected to show Imu taking over the body of Holy Knight Gunko and making his presence directly felt on the battlefield for the first time. Meanwhile, the Monster Trio is currently trapped beneath Elbaph's lost stage alongside the Accursed Prince, Loki. This is exactly where Loki finally reveals the full story of God Valley, connecting the events unfolding in Elbaph directly to the 2027 movie.
Tying Elbaph Directly To The Theatrical Release Makes The One Piece Final Saga Feel Like One Huge Event
Getting a full canon One Piece blockbuster next summer is massive, but waiting for it with the weekly anime off the air is going to hurt. The movie is targeting Summer 2027, which gives Toei a pretty big window to let the animation team breathe before bringing the series back. A tight two-cour run before and after the movie's release could keep the hype moving without forcing the anime to rush through Elbaph just to stay on television.
The timing could work out perfectly. One Piece is already entering the part of the Final Saga where every new reveal seems to connect another piece of the world's history. Having the anime return with Elbaph, then build toward God Valley while the movie handles one of the biggest flashbacks in One Piece, would make the whole thing feel like one massive story instead of separate projects. After waiting this long to finally see Roger, Garp, and Rocks collide, the last thing anyone needs is Toei burning through the material just to get One Piece back on a weekly schedule.
