Sixteen Roma fans banned from Italian stadiums over fascist salute

Four Roma supporters will have to report to police every time their club plays, part of a package of sanctions handed down to sixteen fans over a fascist salute in the Curva Sud.
According to Reuters, Rome police announced the measures on Wednesday. The sixteen have been shut out of grounds across Italy for periods of between one and five years, with the bans reaching beyond domestic fixtures to cover Roma games abroad and Italy internationals.
Gesture came during Roma win over Atalanta
The incident dates to the evening of 5 September, when Roma beat Atalanta 2-1 at the Stadio Olimpico thanks to late strikes from Mario Hermoso and Matias Soule. The salute was performed by supporters in the Curva Sud, the home of the club’s most committed ultras.
Such displays are a recurring problem in the Italian game. Ultra groups have drawn scrutiny well beyond gestures in the stands, with prosecutors having tied some of them to organised crime and to far-right extremist networks.
