JERTIH: A man and his son are feared lost in a forest near the La Hot Spring recreational area in Hulu Besut after going there to look for medicinal roots on Thursday, and police are tracking them based on a location alert sent by the son.

Besut district chief Supt Mohd Rozaime Ab Rahim said the Search And Rescue (SAR) operation resumed at 8am, involving 38 personnel from various agencies and local villagers.

He said the search team received information that Adam Adnan, 25, had managed to contact his family at about 10 am today and share their last known location in the forest.

"Based on the location provided by the man, the rescue team proceeded to the area to locate the two men and bring them out," he told reporters here today.

The operation involves personnel from the Police, Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Force and villagers.

Mohd Rozaime said police received a missing persons report from the wife of one of the men yesterday, prompting the search operation.

Adam's wife, Nur Aliah Zamin, 20, said her husband and father-in-law, Adnan Mohamad, 57, had entered the forest to look for roots believed to be intended to treat her father-in-law's nerve problems.

She said the two men, who are from Kulim, Kedah, arrived in the area on Wednesday for the search and a holiday.

Nur Aliah said her husband worked as a stall assistant in Kulim, while her father-in-law was unemployed.

The family was also informed that the two men had not taken any food supplies with them into the forest, raising concerns about their condition. — BERNAMA
