‘The Mummy 4’ With Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz Officially Titled ‘The Mummy: The Book of the Dead’

Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz’s fourth “Mummy” adventure has a new title: “The Mummy: The Book of the Dead.”

Fraser and Weisz are reprising their roles as Rick and Evie O’Connell alongside a cast that includes John Hannah, Michael Johnston, Numan Acar, Kevin J. O’Connor and Oded Fehr. Plot details haven’t been revealed. As previously announced, Universal is releasing the movie in theaters on Oct. 15, 2027.

The actors first shared the screen in 1999’s blockbuster hit “The Mummy,” which follows a treasure hunter who accidentally awakens a cursed Egyptian priest with supernatural powers. The movie, a reboot of one of Universal’s classic horror creature features, spawned two sequels, 2001’s “The Mummy Returns” and 2008’s “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.” Fraser returned for both while Weisz didn’t appear in the third film.

Filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who call themselves Radio Silence, are set to direct the fourth chapter in the decades-old action franchise, from a screenplay by David Coggeshall. Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett are best known for 2019’s “Ready or Not” and reviving the “Scream” franchise for Paramount in 2022, while Coggeshall’s credits include “The Family Plan” and “Orphan: First Kill.”

Sean Daniel will produce the fourquel, having worked on the properties spinoffs and reboots, including 2002’s “The Scorpion King” and 2017’s “The Mummy.” (Universal’s attempt to reboot the undead franchise in 2017 with Tom Cruise was a critical and commercial disaster.)

Other producers include William Sherak, James Vanderbilt and Paul Neinstein of Project X Entertainment, and Clayton Townsend. Fraser and Hivemind’s Jason F. Brown will serve as executive producers on “The Mummy: The Book of the Dead.”
