Wicker is coming to life at the domestic box office.
The offbeat fantasy romance movie, which is based on the Ursula Wills short story "The Wicker Husband," was co-written and co-directed by Eleanor Wilson and Alex Huston Fischer. It's a period piece that follows a disrespected and lonely fisherwoman (Olivia Colman) who hires a basket weaver (Peter Dinklage) to make her a husband. When the living wicker man (Alexander Skarsgård) ignites a sexual awakening within her, the entire town is shaken up by the situation. 2026's Wicker debuted at Sundance on January 24 before making its way to domestic theaters on October 23.
Per Box Office Mojo, Wicker earned a 3-day total of $5.75 million in just 1,471 theaters, allowing it to debut at No. 5 on the domestic chart for the weekend behind the new releases Wildwood (No. 3) and Clayface (No. 1) as well as the documentary holdover hit You Can See Everything (No. 2) and the action tentpole Street Fighter (No. 4).
The movie's solid per-screen average of $3,908 allowed it to chart higher than a number of bigger budget movies that were playing in considerably more theaters, including the Blumhouse-Atomic Monster horror movie Other Mommy, the Jane Austen adaptation Sense and Sensibility, and the survival thriller Whalefall. Below, see a breakdown of every movie on the domestic chart that landed below Wicker this weekend while playing in more theaters:

Wicker's dynamic box office performance means that it has already earned back more than half of its reported $10 million budget after just one weekend in domestic theaters. While its exact break-even point is unknown, it would likely need to earn less than the average major studio release, which typically needs to make back two and a half times its budget. This means that its break-even point is most likely less than $25 million.
Regardless, it could very well make more than $25 million by the end of its run. For one thing, Wicker reviews are superb, earning it a Certified Fresh 94% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes with an almost equal 93% score from audiences. This should help give it a word of mouth boost as its domestic run continues. Additionally, it is set to roll out in a number of international markets that should bring it an influx of cash over the coming weeks.

Choose the movie with the higher Rotten Tomatoes score.
Wicker is a co-production between the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, and it has only opened in one of those territories so far. It debuts in the U.K. on October 30, followed by its Australian debut on November 5, which should add a solid amount to its domestic total and push it considerably further down the path toward making its money back.
Wicker also has a chance to continue thriving at the domestic box office. While its attendance may be lower during its sophomore weekend thanks to Halloween festivities on Saturday preventing many from going out to the theater, there are no major new wide releases hitting theaters that weekend. This allows it more runway in theaters before it faces more competition from early November releases such as Godzilla Minus Zero, Wild Horse Nine, and The Cat in the Hat.
